Previous research on identification by DNA barcoding was focused on Rhododendron molle, or Chinese Azaleas. The purpose of the research done, was to conduct the barcoding identification towards the identification of Northern Azaleas, which are a rare find due to their specific condition requirements to plant (Yang et al, 2018). DNA barcoding was used because in most cases, morphology is used to differentiate between species increasing the likelihood of misclassification (Mohammed, 2017). During the research process, the research question to answer is: By using barcoding sequencing techniques, is it possible to successfully identify 6 of the North American Azalea species from their leaves?
